What is this course for?
This course is to explore how the music curriculum can be delivered as an integrated aspect of enquiry-based learning. It should provide a wealth of musical ideas for teachers to use in the classroom and the assembly hall.
The course will be largely practical and include some singing and instrument playing. No previous experience is necessary.
The course is led by Richard Croughan who is the music and drama specialist for Ashley Down Schools Federation. Richard worked internationally as an actor / musician for eleven years prior to his teaching career.
Aims of the course:
To demonstrate how music teaching and learning can be better integrated into the curriculum and the school day by:
- Exploring ways into teaching composition for years 1-6 with a focus on children having greater ownership of their work
- Looking at which areas of music might relate to which topics, enquiries and subjects
- Encouraging children to think about the words they’re singing and the music they’re making by focusing on the desired effect on the listener
- Usefulness of evaluating and improving performance in music.
