Target Audience: KS2 teachers / mathematics subject leaders / HLTAs
This full day course focuses on exploring an evidence-based, practical vision for improving maths reasoning in KS2 with nationally renowned Gareth Metcalfe, current teacher, NCETM-accredited CPD provider and creator of ‘I see maths’.
We will explore how to plan sequences of lessons that build in mathematical reasoning at every stage, including the use of equipment and images. Lesson examples and practical ideas will show how to differentiate effectively, giving support and challenge to all learners.
This training will outline how to plan sequences of lessons that support children to build a deep, conceptual understanding of KS2 mathematics. We will explore how to incorporate the concrete, pictorial, abstract teaching sequence. Ideas will be shared for improving the quality of mathematical talk and how to enable all children to access the ‘big ideas’ of lessons.
There will also be a wide range of lesson examples, games, ideas and resources that will help teachers to deepen maths learning for all children. This will be a practical, thought-provoking session for all KS2 teachers and maths leaders.
