Komilla has led Science as a head of department for 10 years. This includes teaching Science at middle school level. Her degree in Biology. In 2014 she took up an assistant head role in Swindon and then was appointed at Filton Avenue Primary as an assistant head with responsibility for Pupil Premium and Science.
In September 2016 she took on Acting Head of School, Orchard Campus.
Key to her role has been improving the quality of Science outcomes by direct and practical support of colleagues developing confidence and competence of teachers to deliver Science effectively. She gained the Bronze award, Primary Science Mark for the school. She has researched how language acquisition can affect project and adopted some of the successful methods outlined in the Thinking, Doing and Talking Science project. Her school is part of the intervention group for this project with the Education Endowment Foundation.
Her current area of interest is continuing her research into early language acquisition, ‘Growth Mindset’ and strategies to support vulnerable children.
