The course for Y3 and Y4 teachers develops deep pedagogical subject knowledge through exploring research, discussion and reflection.
The Sutton Trust report ‘What Makes Great Teaching’ identifies teachers’ content knowledge, including their ability to understand how students think about a subject and identify common misconceptions, as one of the two factors with the strongest evidence of improving pupil attainment. This course aims to develop exactly this kind of knowledge.
Each session will look at a different aspect of number and calculation (addition, subtraction, multiplication & division, fractions). Where relevant we will reference the new National Curriculum and touch on mastery approaches to teaching maths, though our primary aim is to develop great teaching and learning in calculation regardless of the specific curriculum being taught.
The course is for a pair of teachers from your school, one of whom should be a ‘maths champion’ who is in a position to influence practice in your school (e.g. subject leader, phase leader, year group leader or Numbers Count teacher).
The cost includes:
3 full days and 2 half days of CPD for two staff members; during the final day we will plan for maths development back in school the following year.
CD of all the resources used on the course which should support further professional development in school.
Hopefully two teachers returning to school full of ideas, knowledge and enthusiasm!
“Course has been inspirational and hugely developed my teaching in numeracy.”
“My brain always buzzes after – really helps me to reflect on my practice and motivates to improve.”
“I have not been very confident with maths since I was younger. Since being on this course I feel so much more confident and really feel like I understand maths. It has impacted on my teaching and boosted the confidence of the children. Very inspirational.”
The full cost of the programme is £525 which is the cost for two teachers attending.
