This is a FREE event led by Jane Carter, showcasing 60 children's books in 60 minutes!
All are welcome to attend, up to the maximum number of 60 people.
About Jane Carter:
Jane Carter originally trained in law but soon became interested in teaching through volunteer work with children in inner-city Bristol. Her teaching career has included primary classroom teaching, local authority literacy consultancy, in service training and deputy headship of a primary school. Jane now leads the UWE Bristol's English team on the Initial Teacher Education programmes. More recently Jane has been seconded to establish and manage the Bristol Primary Teaching School Alliance.
Jane was awarded the HEA National Teaching Fellowship in 2012 and as part of the award has travelled to the USA to research reading and literacy teaching and learning in a range of different schools in the urban and rural areas.
Jane is also a member of the United Kingdom Literacy Association and has presented regularly and UKLA International Conferences as well as other conferences. She was awarded the 'Best Paper' at a recent conference in Madrid as part of her Doctorate studies with a focus on children's voice in the teaching of early reading and phonics.
Area of expertise
Jane is passionate about the teaching of English and in particular the teaching of reading.
She has been part of a European research project investigating the use of children’s literature in classrooms across Europe. Jane has also established a project with the Reading Recovery Bristol team, linking schools and children to UWE students as part of a reading partner project.
Jane is currently researching the impact of the Year 1 Phonics Screening check on children and teachers' practice.
