Helen has had many years’ experience of leading provision for EAL children in primary schools with diverse multi-lingual and multi-cultural communities. She has developed effective programmes to integrate and support children who are new arrivals at very early stages of English acquisition. She has also established a range of systems for assessing and monitoring the progress of EAL learners, identifying focussed, next step language targets to accelerate their learning. Helen has developed programmes of learning in literacy and other subjects which are tailored to meet the needs of EAL learners and narrow the gap in attainment. She has worked closely with parents and other members of the school community in two schools to design bespoke curricular which harness and celebrate the children’s diversity, as well as enabling them to engage with the heritage and opportunities of 21st Century Britain.
